New Yorkers Against Gun Violence Ed Fund is proud to report that its ReACTION program has been welcomed into New York City schools’ virtual programming, where faculty are grateful to have a real-time program that provides education to students who are affected by this crisis.

NYAGV continues to monitor the news that the rate of gun violence is rising as the crisis and its challenges continue. A JAMA Psychiatry study describes COVID-19 as as a “perfect storm” of suicide risk factors, specifically citing increased firearm sales as a major concern. In New York City, the murder rate is surging compared to last year.

In more encouraging news, another recent study shows that child access prevention laws – like the one passed in New York state in 2019 after years of advocacy by NYAGV – help prevent gun violence effectively. NYAGV is proud of all the students and volunteers across New York State who advocated for this life-saving law, and especially grateful to have it in place while children are spending all their time at home.

Lastly, volunteers are needed! Next week, NYAGV will be launching a peer-to-peer fundraising campaign to support the successful transition of its school-based ReACTION program to a virtual format. If you would like to participate by sharing the campaign with your network, please email for help.

Please stay safe and stay connected!
