ReACTION is the NYAGV Education Fund’s in- school program that teaches students about the dangers of gun violence and how they can advocate to make positive change in their communities. Run in public schools in New York City, ReACTION follows a year-long curriculum focusing on personal responsibility, group interaction and community engagement and culminates in a year-end trip to Albany. Students also learn skills–such as public speaking, debating, planning and organizing, and conflict resolution—that will benefit them throughout their lives.
Students who have completed ReACTION are less likely to believe guns protect them. They are more likely to be aware of their community’s problems and needs; feel they have someone to talk to about their problems; turn to the police for help; and believe they can make a positive difference in their communities.
